Hi to all,

I have only recently discovered this site. I am a long time fan of the hunting life forum and am very happy to see something for us in Australia. I live on Phillip Island Victoria. I have two adopted greyhounds which I use to run the hares and rabbits which abound on the Island. We have next to no foxes on the island due to a eradication program by the nature park so as you can imagine the rabbit and hare numbers are huge. There are a number of things I would like to talk about and the first has anyone had a running dog collapse after a large run and had a condition of acid on the muscles. This happened to me recently after a particularly hard day on the hares. My bitch who is about 2 and half years old collapsed and I took her to vet who pumped her full of elctro lites but she nearly passed away. If you have any experience of this maybe you could tell me how to prevent this condition. It has taken me about 3 weeks to get her to run again and even then it was very gingerly.

You can get electrolyte supplements for your dogs, but you ight just have to watch how hard you are working the dogs, even though they might want to keep chasing they may not be pyhsically able. It goes to show you how tought they are though that they will run them selves into the ground for a Hare!
