welcome mate, as Steve said have a look at the sighthound section towards the bottom of the forum, its where it all happens as far as running dogs go... the only real site in australia for staghounds / roodogs etc.
check out http://www.kangaroodog.org for a bit of info on the australian staghounds and kangaroo dogs
Your US stags are similar but different ot the australian ones, both seem to do the job they are bred for very well but.

lurcher is apommy word, means greyhound x working dog usually, eg collie/greyhound, bull/greyhound etc etc, but ive seen all running dog types called lurchers, but only over in the UK
IMO that dog looks like it does have a bit of dane in it, u'd have to show us more pics of its feet and head to get an idea, few fellas on here know about danes somewhat

where about in the hills, we own a property at bedfordale just out of armadale
u know the first feral pig i ever seen was up there, was doing some work for a mates dad and i looked across albany hwy into the neighbours paddock and tehre was a bloody huge feral pig there, didnt click at the time he was feral but he was as they didnt have pigs. was during the day too
some hammered the creek next door to the blokes house too
